Super Effort!!
Only 11 players available today, no subs due to injury and family commitments. Also, without our GK Miles.
George with a torn hamstring went in goal so we had enough players. The whole match he made some superb saves but due to his injury could not get to every ball.
The team did extremely well and went 1-0 up from a great goal by Jack M. We were on top of the game. All was going to plan until the softest of penalties was awarded against us.
Hassocks took a superb pen that no one would have saved. 1-1 at half time.
At HT, I told the team they were better and playing better football. We missed several chances but were always looking at regaining the lead.
Further attempts led to a good goal from Charlie ,who was always looking likely to score.
2-1 and all to play for until another soft free kick was awarded against us. It was the simplest of free kicks and went straight in as George couldn’t get to it in time.
2-2, and it was anyone’s match. We had our chances, but Lady Luck was not with us today.
A good attack from Hassocks saw George make a good save, which Mason also cleared off the line but unfortunately ran into the goal post and injured himself quite badly. As the ball was still live, an attempt to clear was knocked in and was an own goal.
Mason, in a lot of pain, did extremely well to carry on. For the first time, we were chasing the match, and without any subs, the team tried as hard as they could, but it was not meant to be.
Player Of The Match was awarded to George and Keir for both giving their all despite having hamstring injuries.
Well played, everyone!
