Coach Darren said:
“Our fourth match in a week, we played at home in horrid conditions, cold, wind and rain.
The team could have been forgiven after playing so much football this week if they had a bad day today. However, we played our best football of the week. One touch passing lead to a three player combination and allowed Jack S to finish superbly.
Colts dominated the match as the rain continued to soak us to the bones. Credit to Marle Place having a strong back line but we rose to the occasion and proved to be too much.
A great corner from Tommy saw a back header from Takunda, which was going in, but George made sure of it.
Our third goal came from relentless pressure, and Kieran made sure it went into the back of the net.
Our right back Iceman, “Mr Cool”, Nathan, had an exceptional match and, to top it off, lobbed their keeper to score a fab fourth goal.
Marle Place kept trying and scored a good goal that looked as if it was going out but curled in. A miss clearance in the wet conditions saw a goal clearance goal straight to Marle Place striker, who then had an open goal.
More drama came when the Ref awarded a penalty to Marle Place after a foul. Miles, our GK, was ready to step up for the challenge, although not needed as their penalty taker hit the side of the goal post.
I am extremely proud of every single player this week. They have played some fantastic football and had to contend with a tough week of matches.
Also, yesterday’s Ref sent me compliments on the team saying how respectful the team was. Todays Ref emailed me to say what a great team they are and how well they played today in the conditions.
We now have three matches to play next week and only need one win to secure the league title. We are going to concentrate on one match at a time and do our best to win the next three matches.”
