Are we ready for another of Coach Tom’s epic match reports?
Today, our U7 Red Team played a cup game in the Crawley & District Youth Football League.
Here is what Coach Tom had to say:
“After a great win at the Broadfield Stadium yesterday for Crawley Town FC, Colts were looking to find a similar performance in the “orange cup” group stage.
The match was against a strong side, but all of the players were up for a challenge.
The match started in the usual fashion with Colts off to an energetic start, pressurising the opposition and keeping the ball in the opponents half.
Up front, Will was always looking for the ball, getting a few shots on target but couldn’t manage to find the back of the net.
Cayden and Harry B down the flanks picking up the ball on several occasions and running into the space down the wings, creating havoc for the opposition with their pace and energy.
In goal for the first half was Cody, who was solid, mopping up any shots from the opposition’s strikers and distributing the ball well. Those drop kicks are getting further and further down the pitch, helping the team switch defence into attack quickly. Great second half performance outfield getting stuck in, unlucky not to get a goal.
Parker, playing in a more central position, was nicking the ball from the opposing players and setting up counter attacks with some neat passing play. Turned it up a notch second half and got stuck in well.
In defence, Toby cleared the ball away well and is really starting to improve his calmness on the ball and distributing it out to his teammates.
Against the run of play, the opposition scored a goal that ricocheted back of Cody straight to their player who slotted it in the goal.
With the coaches saying to the players, they just keep doing the same, being more braver in the tackles (going toward the ball rather than running away).
The second half was very evenly matched, it was always going to be tight, but with Cayden doing some excellent work in defence poking the ball away, Colts worked it forwards to Captain Harry B who finished with finesse into the bottom corner. ⚽️ 👏🏻
With their tails up and the game coming to the end, Colts turned up the pressure. With Colts having a Goal kick which was passed by late GK sub Ilay out wide to Cayden who took it on himself to sprint down the wing and take a shot on goal which squeezed through the smallest of gaps over the line and into the back of the net! The crowd went wild 😀🥳⚽️
The final whistle blew, and the comeback was complete. What a game. Well done all, what a team performance 👏🏻👏🏻
