Well done to our U9 (21/22) players who pulled a team together last minute to play in the Elite Development Coaching Football Festival yesterday and made it through to the final. Coach Rachel said: “Just when we had started our break from football over the holidays, I got a message asking if we could get a team together for a tournament to cover a team who had dropped out. Between all 3 of our U9 teams, we took the only players that were available and they gave it their all. Being a mixed team that hadn’t played together as one team before we weren’t expecting to progress through the tournament. The team put the work in throughout the group games, finishing second place in the groups, and earning themselves a place in the quarter-finals. The quarter & semi-finals consisted of a draw, golden goal, and penalty shootouts where the team was successful in securing their place in the finals. With only a minute to go in the final, the opposition team equalised which saw us go through another round of golden goals and penalty shootouts. The team finished as runners-up today, only just missing out on a one-goal difference between the penalties. Well done to the winner’s Mile Oak 👏🏻 I am so proud of what they achieved today, given the circumstances of having to get a team together last minute and not playing in their usual teams. Maidenbower Colts FC U15s recently held their annual awards evening. In combination with the event, they held their yearly Foot Golf competition set with a world cup theme. It was a great way to end a fantastic season and all the players and their families had a fantastic evening. Coach Rachel said: “They had a rocky start in their first 4 group games and it was looking unlikely that they were going to make it out of the group into the semi-finals.In their last 2 group games, they played with determination, playing as a team and getting the ball across the pitch which resulted in getting enough points to finish at the top of the group and earning themselves a place in the semi-finals. The final saw a small defeat but they tried hard to play in hot conditions. Last night our 21/22 U16 Black Team celebrated their fantastic season with an Awards Evening at MPCC – Maidenbower Park Community Club. This great group of young men, led by Coach Paul and Coach Rob, finished their season off by winning the Horsham & District Youth League Plate Competition. Together they progress as a group to U17/18 next season. Our U14s were at the Steyning Tournament today, reaching their first Semi-Final! Coach James said: “Well done to the team today. They made the semi-final after not losing a game in the group stage and only conceding one goal. We lost 1-0 in a tight semi-final that could’ve gone either way. Steyning whites won the tournament who we beat 2-1 in the group stage. To Well done to our U15s who made it to the final of the Southwick FC youth tournament yesterday.Coach Darren tells:“Due to last-minute illness and several injuries, I was still struggling to get a six-man team together at 7 am yesterday morning. All of them gave their all and made it to the final. We played 10 matches and only lost two, one being the final. We got stronger and grew into the tournament and everyone played their part. On Sunday, Maidenbower Colts FC’s U16s Black Team played in Steyning U16 tournament. Coach Paul said:“On a very hot day in Steyning. Maidenbower Colts U16s Black Team played a 5 aside tournament.After 7 group games against some really good competition, we managed to qualify in the group to play in the semi-final against Mile Oak. After a tough game and a score of 0-0, it went to Golden Goal still finishing 0-0. So to penalties, and we won ⚽️⚽️⚽️. We played Billinghurst in the final who we had beaten 3-2 in the group stages but after a really hot day and with fatigue setting in we it wasn’t going to be the final we had hoped for and lost 3-0. Yesterday we received news that Maidenbower Colts FC has been nominated for Grassroots Youth Football Club of the Year in the England Football Grassroots Football Awards 22. Entering into the 21/22 season, as we slowly transitioned out of lockdown, it felt like such a hugely important task for us. More than anything we wanted to get back to what we love doing most, playing football. But, we also felt we had a responsibility and an opportunity to help our Players regain some confidence and start to thrive again as they returned to some sort of normality. The fact that we’ve received this formal nomination is so humbling and is a genuine milestone of achievement and recognition for our football club and everyone involved. Thank you for your support. Thank you for showing up for training and matches and giving it your all. The game started off slow with most of the possession going Ashurst’s way until a break on goal gave Tom the opportunity to put one in the back of the net, 1-0, giving us the boost we needed to get more possession and relax into the game a bit more.We came out for the 2nd half and Ashurst had stepped up a gear and was really on the fight back and to their credit and persistence got a goal back 1-1. As we got into the final 10mins Rob and I started talking about Extra time tactics and then at 77 mins Oli broke on goal taking a shot that bounced back off their keeper and Oli buried it in the back of the net making the final score 2-1. Last weekend they won their League Cup Final. This weekend they won the U9 Three Bridges Tournament! Huge congratulations to our U9 Red team who won the U9 Crawley & District Youth Football League Knock Out Cup Final today. They got off to a slow start but finally picked up some pace towards to end of the first half, working together as a team to pass the ball up the pitch before getting it into the goal.The team had a rocky start to the season whilst re-establishing themselves as a team and had a drop in confidence before their cup games started but they quickly turned it around, winning all of their cup games to secure a place in the semi-finals and securing a place in today’s final.They regained their confidence, learned to believe in themselves, and believe in each other which has contributed to the teamwork we have seen over the last couple of months. We are beyond proud of them and can’t wait to see what they achieve next season. Well done to the opposition team, who were worthy finalists, for making it to the finals and giving us a good game as always.
