Last night our Club Goalkeepers got to chat to Plymouth Argyle FC’s Zac Baker. At just 18, Zac is a professional Goalkeeper with the championship side.
Zac shared the story of how he ended up as a Goalkeeper; from playing in the garden with his Dad to joining a grassroots club as an outfield Player and how on the bus on the way to a game the team’s Goalkeeper was sick so he volunteered to go in goal as he knew he’d get to play 90 minutes that way!
With lots of questions to ask Zac, our Players talked about the importance of positioning and movement, ways to stay switched on ready for those crucial moments, that communication is a constant need, and some tips for facing penalties. Zac also talked about how to deal with making mistakes – by getting over it and moving on quickly.
But the most important piece of advice he gave was to just have fun and enjoy it – or what’s the point.
Our thanks to Zac, who was brilliant. Our young, aspiring Goalkeepers loved the opportunity.
